Sudan Commander Deng Ajak Atak Killed in Plane Crash

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 8, 2008 -- A plane chartered on Sunday from South Sudan's Al-Tawasul Airline crashed at a spot near Rumbek, resulting in the death of SPLA military hero and anti-genoicde/anti-slavery activist, Deng Ajak. Mr. Ajak was General Director of the Kush Institution, and along with founder B.F. Bankie, one of the Global Coordinators of Sudan Sensitization Peace Project, The SSPP.

Officials of the SSPP, President Francis Bok, National Chairwoman Kola Boof and founder B.F. Bankie said of Deng Ajak from New York--"He wanted honesty and transparency in public affairs. He was not liked by Khartoum because of his ideas, but in time he would have influenced positive change at the top. He greatly wanted SSPP to succede and he was committed to exposing those responsible for genocide in Darfur and the atrocities in South Sudan."

Others killed in the accident are SPLA Affairs Minister, Dominic Dim Deng and his family, GoSS Presidential Advisor, Dr. Justin Yac Arop, his wife and two of his children, in addition to 18 SPLA officers and two of the plane's crew.

Less than an hour after the crash, GoSS official, Dr. Riek Machar, dismissed any sabotage or plot attempts as a result of the fierce competition in the base conferences, adding that a team has been formed to investigate the crash.

For his part, GoSS Minister for Presidential Affairs, Dr. Luka Biong, said the Government of the South will go into a three-day state of mourning considering that the delegation was on a national mission, reiterating that an investigation will be conducted on the incident. Many in South Sudan and the Darfur region, however, are insisting that this crash was a deliberate "mass assassination" by the North Arab Khartoum government and that the similarity to John Garang's plane crash are not mere coincidence.

Informed sources further told the media that among the plane's victims were Dominic's two wives and some top-ranking SPLA officers, including John Malut and Kuon Duk, intimating that the plane, which is new, was not in good condition and has not been insured.

National Chairwoman of the United States branch of the SSPP, Kola Boof, has released a separate statement expressing her belief that
